The Smokey Pig

Ashland, Virginia is famous for Randolph Macon College (home of the youngest US college graduate), the neighborhood surrounding the train station, and the Smokey Pig Restaurant!

Located immediately left of Rt. 1 after its junction with Hanover Rd., the Smokey Pig is all things pork - and this includes the decorations - pig objects, drawings, posters, figurines - you get the picture! Its pulled or sliced pork (or beef) platters or sandwiches are a real treat.

You may also order ribs and barbequed chicken. Fries, cole slaw, and hush puppies are some sides available along with "sweet tea". The hush puppies are exceptional. Their meringue pies are fresh baked and delicious.

Be careful as you leave the restaurant, for you may be in such a Southern barbeque "daze" that you stumble into Rt. 1 traffic!
